The recent USA declaration about taking Paracetamol while pregnant, its association to Autism from Donal Trump has alarmed drug companies, professionals and women who are pregnant.

NHS has announced paracetamol is their first choice of painkiller, safe to use while pregnant. To be used at lowest dose, with the shortest duration.

Automation in utero is a changing delicate biochemical process, as infant grows in mother’s womb. Logically, critical processes within utero brings formation change. Demands upon mother is varied and complex at different stages of pregnancy.

Various reasons exist for pain and discomfort in pregnancy.

We each have our own pain threshold. In 3rd trimester, growth of infant puts more pressure on a woman’s body, muscular and skeletal issues may be highlighted, as a women’s feet, legs, spine and hip posture changes to adapt to the extra weight, compared to carrying around a large bag of potatoes all day! Rest is needed to cope with the inter pressure and strain.

Options are available to help reduce pain holistically.

Elevating legs and a pillow between legs helps to take the pressure off skeletal. Prop up with plenty of pillows, to an elevated lounge position when lying down.

Pain relief. Muscular pain responds to heat and cold; a hot water bottle, heat pad, or tens machine helps reduce pain. Cold helps to improve nerve stimulation. Cold application is used for swelling, sprains, strain. Put a towel around a bag of frozen peas for up to 10 min.

Essential oils have been used since ancient times. Applied mixing base oil and essential oil. Topically applied to lower back, hips, legs and feet. Peppermint, Clary Sage, Ginger are pain relief oils. Lavender, a good option to help relax and improves sleep. A few drops on your pillow at night helps with relaxation. Essential oils maybe used in bath; few drops on a tissue on a radiator; candle burner or electric burners, helps with relaxation.

Wintergreen is my go to for general aches and pains, topically used by professionals for muscle and sports injuries. Note be cautious around oils in pregnancy. Look up your nearest aromatherapist professional for advice and guidance.

A serious skeletal condition is Pubisosis, a painful and debilitating condition, affecting lower back and pelvic girdle. Pain restricts movement, crutches are often used to assist. Holistically, realign skeletal and pelvis, helps to reposition joint pressures too. One or two sessions required and (non-invasive to utero).   Recommended Cranio Sacral therapy or D.A.R.E Therapy.

Dehydration can be a factor too. Ensure you are getting eight to ten glasses of water a day to help hydrate your body.
