Bad press chalking up another risk from Opioids… shortening lives
Police investigations are ongoing at Gosport War Memorial Hospital Hampshire as 24 suspects were identified with hundreds more being confirmed had their lives shortened through the use of opioids.
Police identified more suspects after a probe into the 2018 Gosport independent panel found 450 patients’ lives had been shortened because of the routine hospital practice of prescribing and administering opioids to year 2000 and concluded at least another 200 patients were similarly affected. 650 known about, while further investigations are ongoing.

Unfortunately this is only ‘One Hospital’ in the UK
The tip of the iceberg with prescriptive opioids.
Opioids are also in pain killer over the counter drugs regularly advertised on TV and media. Easily acquired daily. The dangers of Opioids have been regularly reported. The addictive, risk tendencies lived are well documented. Yet still prescribed, dangers ignored and not clearly stated to the public.
Incredible that health professionals know the dangers but still common in daily medications. How many need to die unnecessarily before health professionals and authorities will take note and stop this practice. It seems to take a long time for facts and information to be recognised or acknowledged. Surely this information has key importance to save lives and needs action today.
All very well police investigating years after the event, however will it stop the loss of life, or bring those who have been identified back? The time frames to investigate and bring culprits to court is too long. We need NHS and NICE to recognise and stop risky practices NOW.
Is it another Covid head in the sand approach? With health providers causing more harm than good with stoic beliefs and pharma persuasion.
Although recognised and documented will anyone take the rap, or will it be brushed under the carpet with rhetoric with more lives lost! The apathy and risks to life is NOT acceptable in this day and age.
